1. From the car park next to St Columba's cross -- From Churchhill take the road for Glenveagh and, after the bridge at the bottom of the hill, take a left turn marked for the Glebe Gallery. Pass the Glebe gallery on your left, go over another bridge and take the left turn signed for St Columba's Birthplace. You will find a small car park on your left about 200 yards up the hill and the walk to Glenveagh is marked ahead of you.
Short walk: up to the deer fence and back (about 1/2 hour each way -- spectacular views back to Gartan Lake, the chapel and beyond to the new windmills behind Letterkenny.
Long walk: park one car at Glenveagh Castle and another at the Cross car park and walk over -- walk to the castle for tea and cakes, and persuade a bus driver to bring you back to the car park!
2. Circular walk of Lough Akibbon -- about 4 1/2 miles or an hour and a half. Park your car at the Glebe Gallery and you can have tea there after your walk.
3. Circular walk (about an hour) from the new boathouse and coffee shop (open during the summer) at the outdoor centre on Gartan Lake. Walk can also take in St Columba's Heritage Centre. Park at the boathouse or heritage centre and take the road to the right past the outdoor centre and up along the lake until you meet the road. Then turn left, follow the road to the T junction, turn left and then left again through the green gates and along the lake again until you reach your car.
