Reasons to go to Letterkenny

Letterkenny is a planning disaster. It only looks good from a distance, and its traffic jams and unattractive buildings may make you wonder why you ever left home. However, here are a few reasons why you might want to go into town.

Apple pies from Bakersville on Church Lane -- the best in town. Get there before 11 am or telephone them on 074 9121887 to order one in advance. Cocktails in the Radisson Bar: smart design, quiet and not too crowded. The library and arts centre. Computers with internet access are free for members. Meat from the Friendly Butcher opposite Dunne's Stores. And yes, they are friendly. Meat can be vaccuum packed to take home. The swimming pool and leisure centre on the High Road. Being replaced by a huge new centre on the Glenties Road -- but meanwhile, the old leisure centre has a gym, sauna and a great jacuzzi. Ladies swimming on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9 am until 10:30 is only E3.50. The car boot sale on Saturday mornings on Pearse Road -- bet you don't leave without finding something to bargain for! The health and organic food shop with coffee bar -- Simple Simon's opposite the library. Check out the apricot and oat slices. An Grianan Theatre -- a wide range of entertainment: at its best if you can catch a serious drama production.
Bread and cakes from McGettigan's Bakery in the Tesco's Shopping Centre -- everything warm and fresh every morning. The cinema on Pearce Road
St Eunan's Cathedral, built in 1891. Very reasonably priced digital photo printing from Magee's Chemist in the High Street.
The sculptures at the two roundabouts coming into town: The "two tinnies" at the Dry Arch roundabout, and the Polestar -- at the Port Bridge roundabout next to the new tourist office.

Mount Errigal Hotel -- established and friendly with free wireless internet access to all visitors, including non-residents. Settle down in comfort with your laptop and have a coffee while you work.
